big babies, small ladies and brief history of photography

what more do you want from a day than sun family and fantastic art…. yesterday the sun was shining brilliantly and shane had the day off so we want to the NGV to see the Ron Mueck exhibition…. I had been meaning to go for some time but with the little tacker it always takes a lot longer to do anything… The works where fantastic with such minute detail but so strange to see so out of proportion in overall size…. its funny how different people react to art, the first piece you see is an old man but very small just layed out  titled “dead Dad” i thought it was beautiful but an older lady didn’t like it and thought it was horrid, people loved the two old ladies who looked like they had been disturbed in the middle of a good gossip… but the one that moved me almost to tears was the old lady in hospital…. it was a very small elderly lady in hospital blankets looking very small and frail and reminded me so much of my grandmother when she was ill… i loved the fat lady carrying sticks which showed the strength of her body and reminded me of old master’s paintings where large women was a sign of power….  also showing in the NGVS photography gallery was a fantastic collection of works like a small history of photography called re-view with stunning pieces…  Also there was a great collection of chairs in another gallery room that i drooled over….

Peter Alexander PJ’s and sculpture grandeur

It was my birthday a little while ago and my hubby got me a wonderful present of a beautiful nightie… unfortunately he sees me still pre baby and got me one too small (isn’t he wonderful) so he told me to return it for something that did fit…  I didn’t think i would get anything different jsut the right size but the one he picked isn’t available any longer and i was very lucky to see the new autumn range… after drooling over all the beautiful fabrics and styles i chose a Pj pant…  “far away forrest wide pant” they are soooo beautiful with falling leaves and forest critters and with 30% silk feel just divine to wear…

My beautiful husband also noticed that a fantastic story on dateline about the NZ business man and sculpture collector  Alan Gibbs was on (again after i fell asleep which watching it the first time) and set his timer so i could watch.  It was very interesting and made me wonder where i could find a patron like him… if you missed it check it out here… THE ART OF POLITICS

With a floating island made out of stainless steel and a ‘celestial trumpet’ calling to the skies, a rural corner of New Zealand’s North Island has become the unlikely home of one of the world’s major sculpture collections.

There are almost two dozen works of art nestling around ‘The Farm’ in the Kaipara countryside, owned by wealthy businessman and hard-line economic rationalist Alan Gibbs.

Almost all of them were commissioned especially for the collection. The sculptors featured include Richard Serra, Anish Kapoor and Zhan Wang.

3D MOVIE FUN

Grandma and Geoff looked after teh little man yesterday so shane and i  ould go to the movies, it was the first solo movies we had been too since his arrival and it was great.  since we knew it was being made we where super crazy excited about Alice in wonderland

it was fun, fantastic costumes and sets and who could not love a crazy mad Johnny Depp mad hatter, the 3D didn’t seem necessary and i thought bits looked a bit blurry but it added a nice depth to it…

Watching this movie made me think f the other 3D movies i had seen recently…. when i was super heavily preggers Shane treated me to gold class to see UP

this was a fantastic movie with real heart and the 3D really added to the visual appeal….

Another great 3D movie we hired out, complete with 3D glasses was “Coraline” this was super crazy fantastic, all animated dark and creepy but looked spectacular and the 3D was great even on the tv at home…

Inked and Lead – drawing class

I was very lucky last night to get a night off and go to a drawing class run by the fantastic Cherry Darling.  Inked and Lead was started buy a friends of mine and fantstic pinup photographer Helen Mclean who i have had fun playing photographer and model with over the past few years… we have shot me in a corset and a japanese cos play outfit and Helen as Betty Page and Audrey….

I have to admit i was VERY rusty in the drawing department but i had alot of fun….
